Join me in Cozumel to explore some of the best reefs, wrecks, macro and blackwater diving in all of Mexico!
My last several visits to Cozumel have made me fall in love with diving there. I chose Cozumel for this trip because of it's crystal clear waters and extremely wide array of fascinating marine life. It's an underwater paradise with massive coral reefs, underwater walls and some of the world's most exhilarating drift dives. Cozumel is rapidly becoming a leading destination for blackwater diving.
I have had the fortune to develop close relationships with the best dive guides on the island. They truly know the reefs like the back of their hands. Having them with us will make sure we see and experience the best Cozumel has to offer. They will take us to the best spots to dive looking for macro critters, shipwrecks, beautiful reefs, drift dives or whatever we request, all we have to do is ask! There is no better way to experience the underwater world.
All daytime dives will be on a private charter boat with 2 local guides, including Lead Photo Guide Pedro Valencia, a local dive guide with over 6,000 dives in Cozumel. We wont be leaving at 8am - we're on vacation! Pick up will be around 10am most mornings so we can rest and enjoy breakfast. This also isn't a 45 minutes and get out of the water kind of dive, we will dive as long as our gas supply safely allows us. During the day we can expect to see all kinds of rays, turtles, nurse sharks, groupers, stingrays, sweetlips, angel fish and sergeant majors and lots of great macro sea life!
At night we will have the opportunity to dive blackwater. If you haven't done a blackwater dive before you are in for a treat - it is truly a magical, otherworldly experience. It's like no other dive you have done before. Every night billions of zooplankton journey to the surface to eat and then return to the depths before daylight. This is the largest routine migration of life on Earth, and we get to dive in it! We will float in the water column for 90 minutes alongside a 60 foot downline with many powerful lights. These lights attract the zooplankton, jellyfish, larval-stage fish, squid, salps and many others that are so fascinating to see. It's an underwater photographers dream dive and I was completely hooked on it after my first try! Even without a camera it is a wonderful dive!
All Blackwater dives will be on a group charter boat led by Marelux Senior Brand Ambassador Rob Stansfield owner of Blackwater Cozumel.
We will be staying beachfront at one of my favorite hotels, Presidente Intercontinental Cozumel, an IHG resort. The hotel is perfectly situated right next to the marina and we will be picked up directly at the hotel dock. Presidente is a luxurious, high-end, 5 star beachfront resort with all the amenities we would want; 2 swimming pools, 4 restaurants, daily buffet breakfast, tennis courts, spa and more. The food on site is excellent and we will be a quick $10 taxi away from town.
